The cocoa beans come from the Cahabón Valley in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, home to the Federation of Cooperatives of Verapaz (FEDECOVERA). Founded in 1976, this cooperative is entirely led by small-scale producers of the Maya Q’eqchi ethnic group. FEDECOVERA represents around 33,000 families organized into 42 cooperatives and over 21 associations. In addition to cocoa, these smallholders also grow spices such as cardamom, coffee, tea, and sustainable timber.

Cocoa has been part of FEDECOVERA’s value chain since 2011. Around 200 farmers produce approximately 115 tons of cocoa annually, which they grow in an agroforestry system alongside other plants. This sustainable cultivation method ensures a stable income for the farmers. The cocoa is purchased fresh in the pulp and fermented centrally in wooden boxes for 5–6 days before being sun-dried for 10–20 days.

The cooperative not only strengthens the economic situation of its members but also promotes the community through the construction of schools, local clinics, and the provision of microloans.

The organic hazelnuts from Turkey are gently roasted by us so that they are nice and crunchy and develop their full flavor.
