Drinking Chocolate 49% Guatemala

Our Guatemala whole milk drinking chocolate combines a bold cocoa base with caramel notes and a hint of vanilla—refeynert with a generous portion of whole milk. We recommend at least four heaped teaspoons per 200 ml milk—a milk chocolate bar in liquid form.

The cocoa beans come from the Cahabón Valley in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, home to the Federation of Cooperatives of Verapaz (FEDECOVERA). This cooperative was founded in 1976 and is run entirely by small producers of the Maya Q´eqchi ethnic group. FEDECOVERA represents around 33,000 families organized in 42 cooperatives and more than 21 associations. In addition to cocoa, these smallholders also grow spices such as cardamom, coffee, tea, and sustainable timber.

Since 2011, cocoa has been part of FEDECOVERA’s value chain. Around 200 farmers produce about 115 tons of cocoa each year, grown in an agroforestry system together with other plants. This sustainable cultivation method ensures a stable income for the farmers. The cocoa is purchased fresh in the pulp and centrally fermented in wooden boxes for 5–6 days before being sun-dried for 10–20 days.

The cooperative not only strengthens the economic situation of its members, but also supports the community by building schools and local clinics and providing microloans.

We gently roast the organic hazelnuts from Turkey so they are nicely crunchy and develop their full flavor.
